A business outsourcing firm is to open a new contact centre, creating more than 500 jobs, it was announced today.Firstsource Solutions, which employs 1,800 staff in Northern Ireland, said it planned to expand into Middlesbrough, in a newly renovated building.A company spokesman said: "This investment builds on our long term plans for the UK as we need to service potential clients who require contact centre expertise in the UK." Middlesbrough Mayor Ray Mallon said: "It is great news that Firstsource has recognised Middlesbrough as the ideal location for the latest phase in their expansion. The creation of 300 jobs in the first instance, and a further 200 jobs in the future will have a significant impact on the town. "
Ian Williams, of regional development agency One North East, which has given a grant of £ 1.9 million for the project, said: "This is a real vote of confidence by Firstsource in the North East economy. They recognise the ability of the Tees Valley's workforce to provide excellent services for their clients. "I am delighted that One North East has been able to support this project with finance as well as a great deal of guidance and support from our investment and aftercare team."
